Sausage-Onion Bread Bake
Ingredients
1 1/2 cup of self-rising flour
½ tsp sugar
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cup whole milk
2 Tbsp melted butter
1 Tbsp and 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
6-8 sausage links
½ sweet yellow onion, thinly sliced
¼ cup water
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 395 degrees.
2. Heat oil in a cast iron skillet. Brown sausages on both sides. Add ¼ cup water and sliced onions to skillet. Cover with aluminum foil and place cast iron skillet in oven. Allow sausages to cook for 15 minutes.
3. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt and pepper.
4. Whisk in eggs, milk, and melted butter. Beat batter smooth. Let stand 20 minutes.
5. Remove cast iron skillet from oven. Flip sausages and drizzle with additional 1 Tbsp vegetable oil. Pour batter mixture over sausage and onions. Do not stir.
6. Bake an additional 25-30 minutes. Cut and serve hot.
