Deep Fried Vegetables
The farmer appreciates a crisp salad, but deep in his heart will always be a Texan.
Every so often this Yankee shows southern sympathy and fries him up a batch of veges.
Deep Fried Vegetables
Ingredients
2/3 cup cornstarch
½ cup self-rising flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1/ tsp chili powder
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg
Veges, cleaned and cut (Broccoli & cauliflower pictured, but anything goes)
Oil for frying
Directions
1. Heat oil to 350 degrees.
2. Warm oven to 300 degrees.
3. Toss together cornstarch, flour, baking powder, salt and chili powder in a large bowl.
4. Whisk in buttermilk and egg.
5. Dip veges in batter. Set in oil. Fry in small batches, turning to brown.
6. Drain finished veges on paper towels. Place on baking sheet. Keep in warm oven until serving.
